Referee's See Red
A study published in the August 2008 issue of Psychological Science reports that selecting a uniform based on color, specifically red, may work in an athletes favor. The research findings suggest that, when facing a split second decision, referees may score more favorably toward red colored uniforms.
In the study, 42 ref's were monitored during a series of tae kwon do matches. Psychologists found that an average of 13% more points were given to competitors wearing red over those in blue. The bias seems to be most prevalent when opponents are matched in skill level and an instant decision is necessary.
Further research into other colors affected by the bias is needed, but for now, you can feel a little more confident betting on your favorite red-suited teams.
